A Living Hope

“What’s my motivation?” Likely you have heard this question from the acting world. It has somewhat become a cliché and a joke, but the thought of the question is serious for the actor. Before the actor can become their character, they must delve into their character’s motives, what makes their character tick. What is your motivation to live a holy and pure life? The answer is that God loves you so much that he gave you the privilege to become His child and will one day make you to be like Christ.

It is no surprise to say that you struggle daily with sin. I am thankful that the great apostle Paul told you of his struggles in Romans 7:14-25. You call God a liar and deceive yourself if you say that you do not sin or have no sin (1 John 1:8, 10). The best thing you can do when you sin is confess your sins to the Lord and be forgiven (verse 9).

But because you are a sinner does not mean you should relish in sin. I have often said it this way: in this life you cannot be sinless, but you can sin less. Or as Paul said in Romans 6:12, you should not let sin reign in your mortal body. You must fight against it, refuse to yield to temptation and pray to be delivered from evil. What is your motivation? You should want to please your Heavenly Father who made you His child by the death of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ.

Thought: Live a pure life to please your Heavenly Father.
