Redeemed by the Blood

Every time we sing the song Redeemed on Sunday, I am singing or humming it the rest of the week. Redeemed, how I love to proclaim it!

My hymnal states that this hymn is based on Psalm 107:2, “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy.” But it could just as well be based on the verse for today. Revelation 5:9 is also a song, a new song, sung in Heaven before the throne of God. The event is the opening of the book, the scroll that contains the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Who is worthy to open the book? Only the Lamb of God because He was slain and has redeemed you to God by His blood, people of every kindred, tongue, people and nation. Later this heavenly host sings, “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing” (verse 12). What an awesome song!

“My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing unto thee; and my soul, which thou hast redeemed” (Psalm 71:23).

Thought: Sing because you have been redeemed!
