John’s Admonition
“And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever,” 1 John 2: 17
The Bible tells us in the book of Acts that King David served his generation by the will of God. This doesn’t say or mean that King David was always doing God’s will. King David served his generation because that was what God wanted. Throughout the scripture as we read about King David, we see that he was often consumed by the lust of the flesh. His flesh craved the water from the well at Bethlehem which endangered the lives of two of his best men. He saw with his eyes the beautiful Bathsheba bathing on her rooftop and lost one of his greatest warriors as a result. In His pride, he couldn’t imagine his own power being contested by Absalom, but the ensuing rebellion cost him his greatest general. The writer in Acts recorded his end by simply acknowledging that like all men he, “fell on corruption” (Acts 13:36).
We are just like David in that we are human and prone to being overcome by all that is of the world. Everything that is of the world is corrupt. It will be somewhat in order during the Millennial Reign of Christ but following those 1000 years of righteous governance, it will be found wanting and thus will be destroyed. Fortunately, the Father of lights who we may know through our Lord Jesus Christ will make all things new. Jesus, after overcoming the world, has provided us the only way to know the Father (John 14:6). We can come into His Holy presence because our sins are forgiven. We are reconciled to Him, who created in the beginning, because we have overcome the wicked one having been born of God since we have believed that Jesus is the Son of God (1 John 5).
THOUGHT: God expects you to do his will today since He has provided you the gift of eternal life through His son Jesus Christ.
