David’s Deliverance
“He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me,” Psalm 18:17, 19.
When Moses was leading the children of Israel out of Egypt to the Promised Land, he soon found that leading God’s people was more difficult than one might think. The Lord told them to camp between Migdol and the Red Sea. Once there, Pharaoh and his army came after them, and they became very afraid and began to cry out to the Lord. They also started complaining to Moses and said that he had taken them out of Egypt to die in the wilderness (Exodus 14:1-11). As the Egyptians got closer, Moses followed God’s plan and the Red Sea was parted, and they crossed over on dry land. As you probably know, the Egyptians were destroyed in the sea when the walls of water came crashing down. That day, the children of Israel were delivered from their enemy that was too strong and powerful for them to defeat themselves; God did it for them.
In this psalm, David recognized that God had delivered him from his enemies that were too strong for him to defeat by himself (Psalm 18:17). He also told us that God did it because He delighted in him (verse 19). How wonderful to be able to trust in God’s directions, His Word and His deliverance. “As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him” (Psalm 18:30). As children of God, we can have the same assurance that David had when we trust in Him. “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).
THOUGHT
“The Lord liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted” (Psalm 18:46). Let the Lord, your Rock, deliver you, and praise Him for it.
