David’s Request and Reassurance
“I am weary with my groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears,” Psalm 6:6.
Many years ago when my husband was a young man, he was diagnosed with a rare arthritis disorder that nearly disabled him. Thankfully, the Lord strengthened him, and he retained his ability to walk: however, he has struggled with ongoing pain for many years. A few years ago, at forty-seven years of age, he was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. We cried and prayed together for the Lord’s mercy and asked for His help and guidance. The type of leukemia my husband had was very uncommon so we met with a number of doctors as well as a specialist before going forward with chemotherapy. A week into chemo, he broke his back from simply coughing because his bones had become so very brittle from the cancer and treatments. His pain was extremely intense, and it all became so overwhelming.
It is at these moments that we often feel we simply cannot go on. In this psalm, David cries out to the Lord for mercy and healing for body and soul. He was in a weakened state and had many enemies that sought after his life. He cried out to the Lord with a repentant heart toward God, knowing that deliverance comes only from Him. We see the reassurance in verse 9, “The Lord hath heard my supplication; the Lord will receive my prayer.”
Oh how we need the Lord! He heard the cries of my dear husband and me, and carried us through when it seemed to be an impossible situation. My husband is now in remission, and we praise God for His mercy. Do not hold anything back from your Lord and Savior. Allow Him to reassure your heart today.
REFLECTION
“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).
