Prayer Concerning God’s Person

“That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ,” 2 Thessalonians 1:12.

Many people have the mistaken idea that the world revolves around them. It is all about what the workplace can do for them. In family interactions, the same applies. People are generally selfish and self- centered. If you do not believe that, watch what even grown people do when things do not go their way. Have you ever seen a forty-year-old throw a temper tantrum like a toddler? We may have a better control of the English language than the toddler, but it is the same type of reaction.

Sadly, even Christians often have that mind-set. When people respond to an altar call, make a profession of faith, then seem to fall off of the planet, it is because they have the wrong idea of what salvation is about. Many think it is about their ability to get their ticket to Heaven punched. Salvation is certainly a great blessing to us, but in the end, it is not about us. Do you understand that God is self-existent and does not need us to complete Himself? This means that our salvation and subsequent lives on earth are about something else.

Paul closed this chapter to the Thessalonians by telling them what the something else is. He had warned, encouraged and even commended this church for their actions concerning the return of the Lord, then he explained that all of the troubles have a reason. The troubles come for the same reason everything in the created world happens. Read the verse and you will see. The only issue to resolve is this: Is God’s name glorified in you?

JUST A THOUGHT
How often do you contemplate your daily actions and look hard to see if they glorify God? Being a vessel to honor God is not an accident.
