Willing To Go for the Lord
“Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send,
and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me,” Isaiah 6:8.
This is a beautiful passage, and one that is very dear to many missionaries around the globe. One cannot easily deny God’s calling when he hears these words read and preached. And after they surrender, this verse reflects their point of no return; they have answered God’s call. What a powerful verse! God asked who He could send, and Isaiah said, send me.
God sends His people out for all kinds of ministry, but most ministry is done locally. God calls believers to go next door and help their neighbor or show kindness to the grocery cashier. He calls us to volunteer in the community or in our church’s outreach events. Our Lord asks us to pray with a shut-in or help in a Sunday School class. God plants us in an area to be a light and a witness for Him. That area may be urban or rural America, or it may be a third-world country. He asks us to go for Him. He says, “Do it for Me.” On His behalf and as an honor to Him, go and take His light. Isaiah was sensitive to the Lord’s calling, and he answered with, Look no further! Here I am. I can go. Send me.
Paul answered in the same way. After his Damascus road experience, God filled him with His Spirit, and Paul was baptized and immediately began preaching about Jesus. God had amazing things in store for Paul. He had equipped Paul with knowledge, talent and skills that He needed Paul to use to reach people with the gospel. The Lord carried him thousands of miles to meet thousands of people to bring thousands of people to Himself. With God’s power, Paul simply did what he could to bear witness of Christ.
THOUGHT: God calls each believer to go for Him. Will you answer, “Here am I; send me?”
