When Jesus Appears
“And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure,” 1 John 3:3.
The story is told about a stagecoach company which was hiring teamsters to drive its stagecoaches through a mountainous area. The local office manager had advertised for the position, and people began to apply for the job. As they were interviewed, the boss asked each applicant, “How close can you drive the team to the edge of the cliff as you round the mountain?” The first fellow replied that he was skilled enough that he could drive the stagecoach within 3' of the edge of the cliff. The boss thanked him for his time and called in the next applicant.
In the course of the second interview, the boss asked the next man the same question. He replied that he could drive the team and coach within 1' of the edge of the cliff. He was thanked for his time and the next applicant was called in. The boss asked this fellow the same question. He replied, “I would drive the coach as far from the edge of the cliff as I possibly could.” He got the job!
As we contemplate the great love that God the Father has showered on us, we ought to be compelled to live a life so close to Him that we never stray. He calls us His sons and daughters and declares that we shall be like Him some day. These truths should spur a desire in the heart of every believer to purify his life to honor God because of who He is and what He has given to us.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
God has saved us, made us His children and has given us an eternal heritage. May we live a life of purity that honors all that He has given to us.
