Trust God for Justice
“Remember, O Lord, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof. O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us,” Psalm 137:7, 8.
The Edomites were the descendants of Esau, and they were a fierce enemy of Israel. One thing they did when the Temple was destroyed was come in and plunder and leave the Temple destitute. The nation of Israel being of Jacob’s line, the two races were brothers, and they were commanded in Deuteronomy 23:7 to not hate an Edomite. This would be hard to do because of how the Edomites treated them. Have you ever been bullied or has something you cherished been destroyed? Has someone close to you been hard to get along with? These things can bring you down and make you feel depressed and also may bring about a desire to retaliate.
This is what the children of Israel were feeling. They wanted the Lord to remember them for what had happened. Even though they themselves were not to take vengeance, they wanted the Lord to do something. Ezekiel 35 foretold of the destruction of Edom. They were utterly destroyed and laid destitute. Psalm 137:9 says, “Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones,” meaning death to all, including the children. This came to pass for the Lord to show His power and to demonstrate who He is.
“Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord,” (Romans 12:19). This is something that is hard to remember, yet it is needful. Jesus has given you a commandment to love all men. This is trusting in the Lord. One of the hardest things to do is to pray for your enemies. Prayer not only changes your heart, but it also might change the other person.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
Trust that the Lord knows all you have been through, and He will take care of the situation.
