Let All People Praise the Lord

“Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness. Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord,” Psalm 150:1-6.

Johann Sebastian Bach said, “All music should have no other end and aim than the glory of God and the soul’s refreshment; where this is not remembered there is no real music but only a devilish hub-bub.”

The book of Psalms is a glorious ancient hymnal filled with songs of praise to our God. As the psalmist closes his hymnal, he begins and ends his final song with “Praise ye the Lord.” These final songs are filled with reminders of all the reasons sinful man could find to praise our Creator: all that God has done for us and all that He is. There is no shortage of content for which to praise our great God.

This final psalm seems to be a short, but all-encompassing call for every living creature to passionately praise the God of the ages. All of creation praises God regularly and naturally because that is the purpose of creation. The stars sing of his majesty. Rivers and oceans clap their hands in praise and follow their purposeful courses day in and day out. Trees, plants, grass and all the animals of the earth tell of the goodness of God in their very being. So, how can we not praise Him continually, for we too are created to bring Him glory in everything.

THOUGHT
Vibrant praise should be a natural and continual behavior for every child of God.
