Always Abounding
“But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord,” 1 Corinthians 15:57, 58.
“Oh! Victory in Jesus!” How true these words are. The famous hymn, Victory in Jesus, was penned by Eugene M. Bartlett in 1967. He was already a prolific song writer when he suffered a paralyzing stroke that left him unable to perform and teach as he once did. Many thought his career was over, yet this is when he wrote his best known and loved hymn of all time, Victory in Jesus!
To be victorious means to be an overcomer, to triumph in adversity. Merriam Webster says it is defined as the overcoming of an enemy or antagonist. In Jesus, you have victory over Satan. According to Ephesians 1:19-21, God’s power raised Jesus from the dead and God put Him far above all principality, power, might and dominion. There is nothing that has authority over Jesus.
Because you have victory you can be steadfast and unmovable. Both these words give the idea of not moving, not wavering in your faith and service to the Lord or not giving up during times of trial and temptation but to remain faithful. If you remain steadfast, you will abound in the work of the Lord. This word means to super-abound in quantity or quality, to be in excess, to exceed or excel.
You are saved unto good works. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10). Part of that good works is to be faithful, and you can, because you have the victory.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT: Sometimes it is hard to continue, and God knows that. He has given you many reminders and promises in His Word to help you continue to abound.
