Blood Redemption

In 1651, in his book “Leviathan”, philosopher Thomas Hobbes wrote that life is “solitary, poor, brutish and short.” To say Hobbes was a pessimist with a low view of human nature would be putting things mildly to say the least. Ironically, even though he was not speaking from a Biblical perspective, he actually nailed sinful human nature fairly well. Without something transcendent that makes us new people and left to our own natures, life is just as he described it.

Life is rough. We all know that, because most of us live it. It is rough even for those whose eternity is sealed in Heaven forever. The future is glorious, but the here and now can be quite questionable. Most of humanity has not been changed by the Lord Jesus Christ, so we are still surrounded by people such as described by Mr. Hobbes. Sadly, even saved believers can go sideways too. How do we keep hope alive when all around us is strife and tribulation? Clearly the answer is to focus on the future we have in eternity. Yet, that is not so easy as it sounds. In fact, it is very difficult.

As with most things, we can always find success by following the example of Jesus Christ. He came to earth, suffered mightily, and ultimately died to fulfill the mission His Father gave Him. But, God “raised him from the dead, and gave him glory.” After all His tribulation on earth, God returned His Son to the place He had occupied in glory before His incarnation as a man. Friends, the promise is for us also; because Jesus was raised from death, so will we be. Because He has gone to a place of glory with the Father, so will we.

JUST A THOUGHT: When we feel discouraged by this life, all we have to do is read the Bible to remind us of what awaits in the next one.
