Praise to the Lord
“Praise ye the Lord. Praise, O ye servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord. Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and for evermore. From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord’s name is to be praised. The Lord is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens, Psalm 113:1-4.
This short but powerful psalm is an invitation to every Christian to praise our Lord. It starts with a simple yet profound command: “Praise ye the Lord” (verse 1). The psalmist is telling us to celebrate, honor and give thanks to God because of who He is.
The focus is on the greatness of God’s name. We are not just praising God for what He has done, but for who He is—His character, His love, His faithfulness. “Blessed be the name of the Lord” (verse 2) reminds us that God’s name is holy and worthy of our adoration; both now and forever.
The psalmist then beautifully paints a picture of continuous praise, from sunrise to sunset. “From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same, the Lord’s name is to be praised” (verse 3). This means that every moment, in every part of the day, God is deserving of our praise. Whether the sun is just peeking over the horizon or setting on the other side of the world, God’s greatness is constant.
The reason for this unceasing praise is highlighted in verse 4: “The Lord is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens.” God is not confined to one place or limited by borders. His glory surpasses everything we can see or imagine. He is truly worthy of our praise.
REFLECTION
So, let us take a moment today to reflect on the greatness of our God. Let us praise Him for who He is and make a conscious effort to carry that praise from the beginning to the end of our day.
