Fully Following God

Adventures seek after it, conquerors spill blood for it but glory is elusive. Kings and queens have ridden upon splendors, and the fame of heroes has echoed throughout the history of the world. Each day, we see glimpses of celestial glory as we gaze on the created works of God, and many more men and women will fall in search of that promised glory before we stand in our glory before the King of kings in all His majesty. “And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, receive not the promise. God having provided some better things for us, that they without us should not be made perfect” (Hebrews 11:39, 40).

Solomon, Israel’s king, had a share of glory, but he tells of the futility of a life filled with every activity and pursuit. In the end, he shares that the path of glory, the complete duty of man is found in fearing God and keeping His commandments. “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil” (Ecclesiastes 12:13, 14). This is a rare spirit indeed. It is the spirit of a man who would follow God fully. This is a man who finds love, joy, peace, longsuffering, goodness, gentleness and faith. This is a man whose feet run to tell the gospel of peace. This is a man who finds in the lives of those who follow his Lord, his own glory and crown.

REFLECTION: Are you fully following God, and will you lead others to follow him also?
