The Praise,Problem and Plea

“I will sing of the mercies of the Lord for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations,” Psalm 89:1.

Has anyone in his workplace been the designated person to go to the boss with some issue or grievance and done so faithfully only to discover that those who sent you are not behind you at all? You volunteered to lead the charge up the hill and looked behind you only to find nobody behind you running up the hill. Why does this happen? It happens because people are people, people are sinners, and typically, people are motivated by what satisfies them or keeps them safe from harm. Often, what they have promised to others takes the second stage.

The timing of this psalm is unsure, but the theme is not. During the first part, the writer heaps praise on God for His sovereignty in choosing Israel as His people and the line of David to rule. Now, at the time of this writing, something has happened to make it seem as if the throne of David has ended. The writer is trying to work out the seeming difference between his beliefs about God and the reality he sees around him. Had God broken his promises?

God never breaks promises. We know the rest of the story, and we see the throne of David reached to Jesus Christ, who will someday rule the earth. God’s promises are good. God did not fail His promises to preserve the line of David, and He will not fail in His promises to you, both here on this earth and eternally. Remember that when you feel like you are leading the charge alone.

JUST A THOUGHT
God’s timeline is not our timeline. God’s promises will be fulfilled whether we see them or not.
