Beautiful Feet
“And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” Romans 10:15.
Isaiah 52:7 declares these same words. The gospel of Jesus was repeatedly preached in the Old Testament. Are you a preacher? Some mistakenly take this passage to mean that the spreading of the gospel is the responsibility of a preacher, the one who brings the Sunday sermon. The word preacher means to proclaim or publish in a public manner, especially the divine truth (the gospel).
While it is true that the position of preacher is reserved for God-called men, the meaning of preacher is for all to make known the gospel. The key verse says, “except they be sent,” which shows this is a commission from God. Matthew 28:18-20 is known as the Great Commission. Jesus gave this command to His churches. It is the responsibility of every member to go and share the gospel with others through their testimony of salvation and through the proclamation of the “good news.”
The first to announce the good news of Jesus was not a preacher but an angel. “And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people” (Luke 2:10).
God’s desire is for all who are saved to be a witness so that all would have the opportunity to accept Jesus as Savior. How does the gospel spread? Through the preaching or the proclamation of who Jesus is and what He did for the whole world.
Do you want to be known as someone who has beautiful feet? This phrase implies traveling. Since walking was the main source of transportation, those who walked and proclaimed the gospel would be known to have beautiful feet because they were bringing good news.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT: Though you do not travel by foot, you can still bring the good news and tidings of great joy to people you meet.
