A Psalm of Thanksgiving
“Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name,” Psalm 100:3, 4.
America has its fair share of celebrations as a country. There is the celebration of the Fourth of July to commemorate our independence. Among the list are several days taken to recognize the military. America has one holiday that was instituted as a day of thanksgiving to God for his blessings. Thanksgiving Day became official in 1863.
Israel also had many celebrations. These were times of remembering God’s deliverance and God’s blessings through singing, dance and food. Psalm 100 was probably written as a praise when Israel won against the Ammonites.
This psalm declares several things attributing thanks to God. First, make a joyful noise. Give Him thanks and praise for who He is and what He does. Second, serve the Lord with gladness and sing before Him. Gladness is certainly one thing you can claim because of the victories He gives.
By knowing that He is Lord, and He is your maker let us give Him praise for creating you. This is a reminder to be humble and that there is a Creator. With praise and thanksgiving to the only Creator, you keep things in perspective. You belong to Him, He made you. You can celebrate that fact.
“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise (verse 4). Not only can you praise him daily, but you also have the privilege of praising him with other believers. The Lord is good and merciful, and his truth endures.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
How often do you think about how good the Lord has been to you? That alone is enough to give Him praise and sing before Him. He alone is worthy.
