Blessings of Chastening

It is easy to look around the world you live in, and wonder what has gone wrong, and why there is such rampant madness. Would readers believe you are not the first generation to wonder that same thing? In verse 3 of the devotional passage, the Psalmist asks God, “Lord, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph?” God’s people have seemingly always looked around and wondered when God would stop the madness of the world around them.

When it seems the madness is overwhelming, there are some things you need to remember. One of them is that God is not just standing back and remotely watching things unfold. Of course, some things He does allow to just happen as people make them happen, but his ability and readiness to intervene in the smallest details of human activity has not changed. Oddly enough, one of the ways you know that is because He chastens those who belong to Him! He may allow the rest of the world to go mad, and even destroy themselves; however, He corrects, chastens and guides His children to the right paths.

The only question is whether you will listen and respond to that chastening. Your Heavenly Father knows best. You can follow His teaching and escape the madness, or ignore Him and be right in the middle of it. What will you choose?

JUST A THOUGHT: You have choices in life; that is why some children of the same parents seem to go in wildly different paths, even with good guidance.
