The Promise of the Spirit

Joel prophesied of the time when God would pour out His Spirit on His churches to accomplish the work He commanded them to do. On Pentecost, God poured out His Spirit in a special way to empower His church at Jerusalem to begin reaching the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ. His Spirit has remained to empower and guide His churches to carry out the Great Commission and further the gospel until the end of time.
God has commanded us to take His gospel to the ends of the earth, which is a task that we cannot accomplish without Holy Spirit power. By His power, we preach the gospel to our acquaintances. By His power, we give beyond our means to fund missionaries and ministries around the globe. By His power, we remain faithful under hardship and persecutions. None of this is possible apart from the power we receive from the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is at work today saving souls and convicting people of sin, righteousness and judgment (John 16:8). He is at work guiding Christians every day to honor God and obey His Word. He is at work today in every biblical church that is seeking to faithfully honor God and obey His Word. God’s Word prophesied of this thousands of years ago and His Spirit is fulfilling His promise to give power to His people today.
Every member of every New Testament church can accomplish God’s will in his life because of the power that God has given him through His Holy Spirit. We ought to simply believe in the power of God and obey Him to do all that He has commanded us to do.

REFLECTION: God empowers His people to accomplish His work through His Holy Spirit.
