The Reward of Enduring Temptation

“We felt ill at ease and with good reason. The road was long, and it led through a dangerous part of the island. Under normal circumstances, the journey would have taken around six hours to reach home. This day however, had been anything but normal. Our departure from the interior province had been late to begin with but if we hurried, we’d make it through the red-flag area before dark. That wasn’t to be. A breakdown of the truck left us stranded along the road, half-way through the danger zone. It was too late to make repairs without raising a lot of attention, too far to retreat to a safer area, and we dared not leave the truck and equipment abandoned. That night, my helper and I laid beneath the truck and without sleep, we prayed.” (Along the road in Sultan Kudarat, Mindanao) —Memoirs of a Missionary, Glen Knight
In the service of the Lord, many things will be encountered, some producing much excitement but some also producing great fear. We do well to remember the truth of the statement of 1 Corinthians 10:13. The use of the word “temptation” in this verse as well as in our devotional passage speaks of testing. There are many ways to be tested. Considering our resolve, our knowledge, our skill or perhaps, our strength—all may be and are frequently tested. But the primary thing here is the testing of our faith as can be observed in the previous verses in this chapter. The testing of our faith in God produces endurance.

AN AMAZING TRUTH: Do we admit to the leadership of God? If so, then we must also know that His leadership will not place us where His strength cannot deliver us, or His grace will not sustain us!
