David Rejoices in the Lord

“Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope . . . Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore,” Psalm 16:9, 11.

Once while going on a ride with my brother on his quad runners up in the mountains, my brother took off ahead of me, and I got lost on my return to the truck. It started to get dark, and the fog started rolling in which made it more difficult to determine where I was and which path was the right path I needed to take to get back to the truck. I stopped, prayed for help and direction, and was able to find my way back. Once I knew I was back on the right path, it gave me hope and joy, and I was able to increase my speed and get back much more quickly.

In David’s life as king of Israel, he had many ups and downs and often struggled in knowing if he was on the right path with the Lord. But when David knew he was on the right path and in a right relationship with God, he realized God was with him and that he wanted to remain on this path with Him: “I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved” (Psalm 16:8). When we begin to trust that God will show us the right path, we find that there is joy in knowing where we are going. When God is right next to us on our journey, it is always a pleasurable experience that will bring us great joy (verse 11).

THOUGHT
Spend some time in His Word and your path may be clearer: “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105).
