Samuel’s Legacy
“Exalt ye the LORD our God, and worship at his footstool; for he is holy. Moses and Aaron among his priests, and Samuel among them that call upon his name; they called upon the LORD, and he answered them,” Psalm 99:5-6
The legacy one leaves to their family and friends is so very significant. Unfortunately, many do not consider their legacy and the lasting influence it will have until it is too late. Others may recognize its magnitude, but arrogantly see it as building a great name for themselves to be remembered for all time. “Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity” (Ecclesiastes 1:2). But there is no greater legacy one can leave than that which brings glory and honor to Almighty God.
What a beautiful psalm of praise and exaltation to our holy God. Samuel is mentioned within this song along with Moses and Aaron as those that called upon His name. Seeking the Lord in every situation is something we see throughout Samuel’s lifetime and again. He trusted the Lord to give him direction and guidance and the Lord was always faithful to answer his prayers. He recognized that he could do nothing apart from God and that he was fully dependent upon Him. This was Samuel’s legacy and it glorifies God rather than himself.
The greatest legacy we can leave is one that honors Christ. Think about what you want to be remembered for. The accomplishments of this life will not last. Your worldly success will soon fade away. May we turn the focus away from self and to the living God. He is the one we are to lift up in our life as well as our death. A life of faith, dedication and love for the Lord is a priceless gift you can leave to your loved ones. Show them by your actions what it looks like to lift up the Lord Jesus Christ.
REFLECTION: May your funeral service have the potential to turn into great revival where lost souls receive Christ!
