David Gives the Lord His Devotion

“Be thou exalted, Lord, in thine own strength: so will we sing and praise thy power,” Psalm 21:13.

I have precious memories of a dear sister and friend who loved to sing for her Lord. She did her best to attend every church meeting, ladies’ meetings, state meetings and even the ABA meeting when she could because she so deeply enjoyed the fellowship of God’s people. Without fail, at every service she would lift her voice in a song of praise to the Lord. There would be no instruments, just the sound of her beautiful voice filling the room with sincere devotion to her Lord and Savior. All who knew her loved to hear her sing. She loved the Lord, and it flowed out from her life.

King David had a love and deep devotion for the Lord and expressed it in many ways. He gave God all the glory and praise outwardly among the people. “I will give thee thanks in the great congregation: I will praise thee among much people” (Psalm 35:18). He also sang songs of praise to the Lord, as can be seen in 2 Samuel 22, and wrote a number of the Psalms. David trusted in the Lord and prayed continually. “Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice” (Psalm 55:17).

True devotion requires giving our time and attention to the Lord above all else as well as obedience to His Word. It is concerning how few of God’s own children have time for Him today. And yet, He alone is worthy of our utmost adoration and praise for all He has done. It is time to rid our lives of the distractions that take us away from giving Christ our full devotion. Make Him your joy and sing praises to Him. “Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice” (Philippians 4:4).

REFLECTION
Is your life truly devoted to Christ? If not, consider rededicating your life to Him today.
