“And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,” 2 Thessalonians 1:7.
While on a road trip, have any of you ever had the experience of your Mom and Dad threatening to come to the back seat and straighten out your misbehavior? I am sure most have. If not that, then it was likely another example of your parents’ patience running out over your behavior and telling you they were about to come to fix it. The analogy is imperfect, but it helps some; eventually, God’s patience will run out, and He will come down to us again and fix our mess. In fact, He will create everything new! What does this mean to us? It means a couple of things. First, it means that no matter how bad things may seem to us as the world seems to fall apart, God will fix it someday. Someday we will enter our eternal reward, God will wipe away all tears, and we will live in eternal bliss. You may say, “Well, that is way down the line; what about now?” God never promised to fix the now. You may not find relief from trouble while you live and breathe on earth.
We need to remember who it is that will fix it. Read the devotional verse, and you will see. The Lord Jesus is coming to fix it. That is His job, not ours. Our job is not to defend ourselves against those who trouble us; that belongs to Jesus as well. My job and your job is to help people understand their broken condition before God, their separation from God, and that Jesus is the solution. Your job is to share the gospel.
JUST A THOUGHT
It is not our job to fix the world or to fix the ones who are messing the world up. That is God’s place. Our place is to point others to the One who can fix them and the world.
