Scoffers Will Come

A young woman who was soundly converted immediately began to read her Bible. A friend who disbelieved the Scriptures and took delight in ridiculing them asked her, “Why do you spend so much time reading a book like that?” “Because it is the Word of God,” replied the girl. “Nonsense! Who told you that?” scornfully asked the unbeliever. After a moment’s silence the girl asked, “Who told you there is a sun in the sky?” “Nobody,” replied the scoffer, “I do not need anybody to tell me. The sun tells me.” “Yes,” said the girl in triumph, “and that is the way God tells me about His Word. I feel His warmth and sense His presence as I read His wonderful Word!”

As we continue through time, each day we are drawing nearer to Christ’s return. Christians know this to be true as we stake our lives on the Word of God and watch as prophecies unfold. Yet, doubters will say it is not true because they do not see the events unfolding in a manner that causes them to believe. Doubters turn to scoffing and mock the very name of God because they have not accepted the truth.

God’s Word warns us of scoffers so that we will be prepared to respond in faith rather than be frustrated or discouraged by their mockings. God has always had doubters speaking against Him and those of us who follow Him should not be surprised at the scoffers. Our focus should remain on faithfulness to God and His Word. Respond to scoffers with compassion and grace as they are not rejecting you but the God you serve.

REFLECTION: Everything God has said will come to pass. We must declare His Word faithfully and graciously to a lost and unbelieving world.
