What Israel Should Do

“Praise ye the Lord: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely. Sing unto the Lord with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God: Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem; praise thy God, O Zion,” Psalm 147:1, 7, 12.

In these verses, the psalmist calls us to praise the Lord for His goodness, for the beauty of singing praises, and for the unique way in which God has fashioned His creation. Let us consider the significance of this call to praise.

First, the psalmist emphasizes the inherent goodness of praising the Lord. Praise is not merely an obligation but a joyful response to the goodness of our God. As we lift our voices in praise, we align ourselves with the truth that God is worthy of all honor and glory.

Second, the mention of singing praise upon the harp symbolizes the diversity of worship. Just as the harp produces a variety of tones, our worship can take many forms. Whether through music, prayer or acts of service, our diverse expressions of praise contribute to a beautiful symphony that delights the heart of God. The psalmist urges the collective praise of God’s people in the congregation. When we worship together with our church family, we find strength, and we experience the fullness of God’s presence.

These verses challenge us to recognize the goodness of God, embrace the beauty of worship and join in praise with God’s people.

DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT
Let our lives be a testimony of gratitude and worship, echoing the psalmist’s call to praise the Lord, for it is good, pleasant and becoming of Christians.
