Messiah,Priest,Conquering King
A Psalm of David.
“The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. The Lord shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies. Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth,” Psalm 110:1-3.
This lofty and prophetic psalm foreshadows the majesty and authority of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. In verse 1, the Lord invites the Messiah to sit at His right hand, a position of honor and power. This reflects the position of Jesus after His resurrection and ascension, affirming His victory over sin and death.
The subsequent verses portray a scene of triumph and divine authority. The “rod of thy strength” (verse 2) coming from Zion signifies the spiritual power and dominion that Christ exercises over His enemies. The willing obedience of His people in the day of His power emphasizes the transformative effect of Christ’s rule on hearts and lives.
For Christians, this psalm encourages us to place our trust in the victorious and eternal reign of Christ. In times of challenge, we find comfort in knowing that our Lord is seated at the right hand of the Father, interceding for us and sovereignly ruling over all. May we submit to His authority willingly and find confidence in His ultimate triumph over sin.
