The Power of Christ
“When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him. And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead,” Mark 9:25, 26.
In the previous verses, you find a man who had a son possessed with a demon. Jesus addressed him in verse 23, “If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.” At this the father said he did believe, and he also asked Jesus to help his unbelief (verse 24).
Once again Jesus had demonstrated His power by casting out a demon. Notice how strong the demon was by what he did to the boy in verse 26. But there is no power that can withstand Jesus. Throughout the gospels, you see He not only healed many with various diseases, but He also cast out many demons.
Everyone Jesus healed had faith that He could do so. That is what made it possible for Jesus to perform miracles. Not that He could not do it without someone exercising faith, but faith is how God has chosen to show His power. “And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power” (Ephesians 1:19).
This man repented of his unbelief and Jesus healed his son. Unbelief is not trusting in the Lord. Many times during your walk with the Lord, you might have to do what this man did and cry out to the Lord asking for help to believe. You might need to consider where your faith is. Any time you doubt God, He will help you trust Him.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT: Through salvation, the power of God is in you. Nevertheless, it takes belief to exercise this power. If you find yourself having a hard time trusting, ask God to help you believe.
