The Worst of All Possible Worlds

“If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, when men rose up against us: then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us,” Psalm 124:2, 3.

People will fight at the drop of a hat. I remember in college that disagreement was a way of life, but it was different. We could sit around the student union, have contentious disagreements about some topic, then put it aside and share a coffee together. We could disagree and remain friends. These days, disagreement equals hatred. People do not really try to discuss areas of contention and come to any consensus; many discussions these days escalate straight to insults and name-calling.

Christians can become trapped in this as well. We may be more likely to get involved in this because many find what we believe to be objectionable. The truth is, when assaults come, the natural reaction is to circle the wagons and start firing back at those coming after us. Did you catch that? That is the natural reaction. But did you know we are called not to react as others do? Did you know that you are a new creation in Jesus Christ? Christians are supposed to be different.

Our problem is that we need to remember who has our backs. We think we have to fight our battles in the world when, in fact, we do not. We must contend for the faith and be bold about telling others about Jesus Christ. That is the Christian role in this life. If you take care of that, God will take care of the rest. You do not have to pick your battles because God has already told you what they are.

JUST A THOUGHT
Your job is not to fight with people but to tell them about Jesus.
