One of the Twelve Spies

It is likely that we all have experience with, aginners. Those would be the people who are against anything that is not the status quo. They consider change to be an anathema and want everything to be just as it has always been, even if it clearly is not working well. Sadly, many of these folks will even gladly stand in opposition to the clear guidance of God to move in a direction, because it is not what they have always done.

We all know how this story ended. The twelve spies checked out the Promise Land and brought their report back to the people. Joshua and Caleb trusted God and recommended doing just as God said, and taking the land God had promised Abraham. Sadly, the other ten brought a report of terror and negativity, and said it was impossible to accomplish. Even more sadly, the people went the way of the ten scared spies and balked at moving forward in accordance with God’s direction.

It was not necessary for God to send spies ahead of the people. He knew exactly what was waiting there. Had He not done it, the people most likely would have simply kept moving forward. It seems this was a test to see if the people had the resolve to move forward despite possible difficulties Sadly, they failed this test. They had a choice to make, and they made a bad one.

We all have choices. As lost souls, one can choose to believe on Jesus or to reject His salvation. As saved saints, we can choose to follow Jesus daily or to keep living as we wish. Just like the Israelites, good choices bring blessings and bad choices bring misery and failure. What will ours be?

JUST A THOUGHT: The fulfillment of God should be our goal in life. Without that, we will always be empty inside.
