The Wind and the Sea Obey Him
“And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?” Mark 4:39-41.
“What manner of man is this?” This is a question every person must answer about Christ. The disciples had not been following Jesus very long, but they had followed Him long enough to see great miracles by His hand. However, when the wind and sea obeyed His command, the disciples were struck deeply enough to ask this question: “What manner of man is this?”
Jesus’ miracles would be a testimony to His heavenly authority which proved His power to also forgive sin. You see, Jesus was not just a miracle working prophet who spoke about God. Jesus is God and His miracles were simply an exercise of His heavenly authority. However, this miracle was a powerful testimony of His deity to those who followed Him most closely.
Just like these disciples on the boat, many Christians are astonished (even surprised) when God shows His power in their lives. But, when God moves powerfully in our lives, He strengthens our faith in Him and deepens our resolve to testify of Him to a lost world.
FINAL THOUGHT: Today, take note of the times God has worked powerfully in your life and celebrate by testifying of His power to others.
