Jericho Falls

I’m reminded of King Solomon who wrote as the preacher in the book of Ecclesiastes. He cautioned against having a futile life marked by working late and getting up early. I spent so many years, working late into the night, falling exhausted into my bed only to be awakened by the blaring of an alarm clock early the next morning. As those days became weeks and those became months, my productivity went down, and my stress rose. Back then, I was following my own path. My dreams were grand, my energy was high, but my thoughts and my heart were certainly not on the highest King of Heaven and the strongholds He wanted demolished in my life.

Jericho was one of these strongholds in the life of God’s people. Jericho was the most fortified city they had encountered. They had not faced anything like this city on the east side of the Jordan River. But God had a unique plan, a singular focused approach; the only plan that could result in the walls of Jericho falling. No human effort, no matter how late into the evening or how early in the morning, could bring about a victory. On this day, God wanted them up early and wanted them to work harder than they had before and because they did it His way and, in His time, Jericho fell to the people of God.

God knows the strongholds that are before you. He already has a plan to tear down and remove those strongholds in your life.

REFLECTION: Are you doing it God’s way or your way? Are you working long with little to show for it because you are outside of God’s will?
