How We Are To Do It

“For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: that every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour,” 1 Thessalonians 4:3, 4.

“Holiness does not consist in mystic speculations, enthusiastic fervours, or uncommanded austerities; it consists in thinking as God thinks, and willing as God wills”—John Brown.

Christianity is not a system of rules to follow in order to please our Heavenly Father. Yet, Scripture is clear that we must forsake sin and choose holiness because we have been saved from sin. Paul challenged Christians to abstain from sin for the purpose of identifying with Christ through a separated life. No Christian should ever feel at home in the sinfulness of this world.

Jesus Christ paid the price for sin when He died an awful death on the cross. He quite literally put sin’s punishment to death through His own death. While Christians have been rescued from the eternal punishment of sin, we must still choose every day to put to death our own sinful lusts. We no longer live for self and sin because Christ purchased us with His blood. Therefore, we should live for Him a life of purity and separation from sin.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Because Christ conquered sin on the cross, every Christian has the power to overcome sin and live a life of holiness.
