The Truths
“God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God. Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy: for thou renderest to every man according to his work,” Psalm 62:11, 12.
A very wise man once advised me to never put any person up on a pedestal where only Christ belongs. If you have been in the Lord’s church long enough, doubtless you have seen many fall away due to hurt feelings or family members who have left their church. It begs the question, who were they following? It becomes clear that they were not truly disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul had to address this issue with the church in Corinth as well: “For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?” (1 Corinthians 3:4). He goes on to explain to the brethren that the power is not in a man, but only in Christ Jesus.
Power and strength belong to Almighty God. The Lord may have given you wonderful parents or grandparents from whom you have learned much over the years. He may have placed a faithful pastor in your life who has been a great mentor and friend. Praise the Lord for such gifts, but Christ is to be our all in all. He is the One who gave His life so that you could have life everlasting. He is the One that is ever interceding on your behalf (Hebrews 7:25), and He is the One you will stand before and give an account to one day.
Mercy also belongs to Almighty God. Praise God for His great mercy! He is the only One you can cry out to in your greatest time of need. Consider our all-powerful Savior, full of grace and truth. It is imperative that we are faithful followers of our Lord Jesus Christ and no one else. Power and mercy belong to Him alone.
REFLECTION
If all others were to turn away, would you still follow Christ?
