Head Stone of the Corner

“I was told early on that accomplishing the task would be impossible without heavy lifting equipment. But such wasn’t available, and it just didn’t seem that that would be the end of it. There had to be another way. The final plan devised was to build, in place, a compression ring for the top, center of the hexagonal building and once completed, bring all other components piece at a time to it. The result was a success when once the work was done and the shoring removed. The huge, double-tiered ring held the structure erect and secure!” —Memoirs of a Missionary, Glen Knight
It took some figuring and a lot of doing but the principles of slope and vertices and the force of gravity proved once again, several ancient geometric theorems. We were busy constructing a large building for use as our church and seminary facility in the Philippines. And how to set a clear spanning roof structure 45' aloft, presented the greatest challenge. But that was met by remembering a biblical truth: Jesus is the head of the corner. In modern times, a certain understanding is lost on that thought since corners to us are different from those of the ancient past. For example, the cornerstone of a Roman archway would have been what we call today, a key stone. That is the top stone in the arch—the one that has an unusual shape. Its design is for that spot only. It will not fit anywhere else in the structure. And it is the single most important stone since by virtue of design and weight, it holds the entire building together. And for that reason, it is typically the largest and strongest.

AN AMAZING TRUTH: Jesus is top tier in God’s plan for the ages. Know Him!
