The Prayers of the Faithful

There was once a movie concerning death being foretold which was not necessarily a good Christian cinema, but the premise was interesting. In the beginning of each movie, some character would see a dream about an impending accident in which everyone would die. That character, along with others, would manage to avoid said accident and live. At least, they would live temporarily; because ultimately, each of these survivors would later be killed off in the movie.
Hezekiah also received a prediction of the future. In his case, he got it directly from the prophet Isaiah. In our movie example, the people did all that they could to avert their upcoming deaths; Hezekiah went directly to the One who actually controls life and death, God. Hezekiah reminded God of his faithfulness and service to God through the years and presented his petition for more time to live.
God granted King Hezekiah’s petition. Did God change His mind here? We cannot say for sure; perhaps this was the plan all along. What we can learn from this passage is that God reacts to the prayers of those faithful to Him. What do we do when life confronts us? Do we run around trying to fix it, or do we go directly to the One who can?

JUST A THOUGHT: When our desires and God’s will meet, all our prayers start getting answered exactly the way we want.
