The Malice Against a Deacon

“It was a letter from certain religious and civic leaders of the city that was delivered by a runner and left at the desk where we were sure to find it. It contained a long indictment against us of creating disruption within the local community through our preaching and as we so often did in those days, conducting a Bible seminar, open for all to attend. There were threats leveled at us and as if to validate the intention of the same, a large dry seal and notary stamp were affixed with signatures of who knows whom. It was just intended to look good. After all, looking good seemed so often to be the most important thing among some people.” —Memoirs of a Missionary, Glen Knight

Who would have ever imagined that in our times, we would see churches shuttered and their parking lots cordoned off with no parking signs and for weeks at a time, no one allowed to enter for public worship? Who would have ever thought that a pastor could be arrested and jailed for simply going about his duty in ministry among his people? We could not feature churches closing and never reopening because the people became accustomed to virtual church and that, likely not even conducted by their own pastors. The New Normal and the Great Reset are what they’re calling it and life, at large is being affected by it. Like it? No. Surprised by it? No. Ready to quit? No! The fact is that this is the finest hour for God’s people to rise up and go! Stephen chose to do so, at the cost of his own life. Many others in ancient and modern times have chosen as well.

An Amazing Truth! Threats are serious. But more so, is the gospel!
