The Lord's Faithfulness
“Now therefore stand still, that I may reason with you before the LORD of all the righteous acts of the LORD, which he did to you and to your fathers,” I Samuel 12:7.
The faithfulness of the Lord to the nation of Israel is seen throughout the pages of God’s Word. He has performed mighty acts of deliverance for His chosen people and yet they continued to forget Him time and again. Moses interceded on their behalf numerous times and reminded the children of Israel of all that God had done for them. “He is thy praise, and he is thy God, that hath done for thee these great and terrible things, which thine eyes have seen” (Deuteronomy 10:21). Now here stood the children of Israel once again before Samuel as he presented to them the king they had demanded of him.
Samuel took this opportunity to rehearse with the people the just and righteous deeds of the Lord beginning with the deliverance from Egypt and throughout the time of the judges. God was always faithful to His people, but sadly they often turned their back on Him and worshipped false gods. He would then turn them over to the enemy until such time as they would repent and cry out to Him for deliverance, and He would raise up faithful men to deliver His people once again. Truly the Lord God Almighty was and is the King of Israel and had shown His faithfulness to them. Yet their desire was for an earthly king.
We, too, can become forgetful of the faithfulness of God. It is vital that we stay in His Word and rehearse the wonderful, faithful acts of our great Lord and Savior in our lives. Talk of Him in the congregation and testify of all Jesus has done in your life. Speak often and openly of Him to your friends and loved ones. Great is His faithfulness!
REFLECTION: “God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord” (I Corinthians 1:9).
