David’s Determination
“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar,” Psalm 42:5, 6.
I used to work with a man who always seemed to be happy no matter what the circumstances were. One day I asked him how he could be so positive every day and if he ever had a bad day. He told me that he had all the problems that everyone else has but that he had made the decision many years before that he was not going to let the circumstances of life steal his joy from him. He told me that he was determined to let the love of God shine through his life no matter what bad things happened to him.
When all seems bleak or lost, there is still a reason to have hope in the Lord because He is constantly helping us (verse 5). It is impossible to see what hope the future has for us in this world even if we have hope for eternal life through Jesus Christ. When this happens we need to look backward and remember what God has done for us and others in the past and thus give us assurance for the future (verse 6). Determining to trust in the Lord no matter the situation and make Him your delight, He will then give you the desires of your heart (Psalm 37:4). Determination in following the Lord always brings blessings. “Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass” (Psalm 37:5).
JUST A THOUGHT
“For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith” (1 John 5:4). Lean on your faith to win those little victories every day.
