The Redeemed in This Kingdom
“O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph,” Psalm 47:1.
Throughout the Old Testament, we read about the numerous times God fought for Israel and gave them great victory. From Joshua marching around Jericho to Gideon breaking pitchers and lighting up the sky, God’s methods are often quite unconventional, to say the least! One such battle that is not well known is that of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, as he fought against the Ammonites and Moabites. The Lord had told Jehoshaphat not to fear for He would be with him. Jehoshaphat trusted God and rather than sending out his best warriors to the front line, he sent singers. “And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the Lord, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the Lord; for his mercy endureth for ever” (2 Chronicles 20:21). The Lord gave Judah great victory that day and blessed them immensely for their faithfulness.
The redeemed of the Lord have so much for which to rejoice and be thankful. The psalmist encouraged God’s people to clap, sing and shout in triumph to our King. Consider the innumerable blessings of belonging to Christ. We have been set free from the bondage of sin and have become children of Almighty God. We have the blessed assurance of an eternity with Christ, and nothing can ever separate us from His love. We should be the most joyful people on earth.
Like Jehoshaphat’s singers, may we continue to praise the Lord even during the heat of battle. Have faith in the Lord that the battle is already won. When you come together with God’s people, lift your voice in praise and celebration of your King, the Lord Jesus Christ. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so!
REFLECTION
“Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!” (Psalm 107:8).
