David’s Plea for Rescue of His People

“Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! when the Lord bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad,” Psalm 14:7.

“Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” The words of the apostle John resound within the hearts of God’s people today. There is no escaping the evil that surrounds us daily as we walk in this wicked world. We are living in the day that evil is called good, and good is called evil. Society is quickly turning against true Christianity and the biblical values and principles that we are called to uphold. There is no doubt that the spiritual battles are growing fierce, and our faith is being tested as never before in our lifetime. This world is not our home, and God’s people are yearning and groaning to be with Him more each day (Romans 8:23).

David spoke of the depth of wickedness in his day as well. The Israelites were being greatly oppressed by corrupt people who did not fear God or even acknowledge His existence. David was astonished at such stubborn pride in man that would keep him from calling upon the Lord and turning to Him. He made a plea for the salvation of Israel not for the Redeemer to come.

Oh how we long for our Savior to come. The persecution and oppression of the righteous is inevitable. Jesus said, “If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you” (John 15:18). The true disciple of Christ will suffer in this life, but you have a great reward waiting. So keep your eyes on the eastern sky and patiently await the Lord’s appearing. “He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus” (Revelation 22:20).

REFLECTION
“Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13).
