Samuel Repeats the Message to Eli

“And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the Lord,”

1 Samuel 3:15.

The Bible is clear about the future. For example, the apostle Peter left little to the imagination when he wrote, “the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up,” (2 Peter 3:10). It is easy for you to be fearful about sharing the truth of God’s word when it speaks so clearly of unpleasant things.  It is unpleasant to many that Jesus is the only way.

As followers of Jesus, we have a great responsibility to repeat the gospel to the whole world.  The message is only the good news when it is accepted by those who have heard.  When the gospel is accepted it is, “the power of God unto salvation;” something of which we should not be ashamed. We dare not hide the word of the Lord from anyone because the truth about God’s judgement on the unbeliever has eternal consequences for every individual.

Eli sought to know the truth because he understood clearly what the prophet Isaiah would later write; that, “the Word of our God shall stand forever” (Isaiah 40:8). In spite of his failings, Eli accepted the sovereignty of God over his own life even though he sensed it was unpleasant.  Perhaps this was a landmark moment in Samuel’s life, as well, since the scripture records that from that point forward God did not let Samuel’s words fall to ground.  God has promised that his word never returns void but accomplishes His purpose according to His sovereign will.  If you will unashamedly proclaim what God’s word says, your words will have purpose too.

THOUGHT: Don’t be ashamed of God’s Word. Repeating it may open the doors to the house of God for someone you love.
