Aaron Appointed

Most of Exodus 28 is the detailed description of Aaron and his son’s garments. They were to look very much like a king because they represented Jesus’ intercession and mediation for sinners. Jesus’ priesthood was the priesthood of a king. Unlike Aaron’s priesthood, Jesus’ priesthood was the Melchisedec priesthood (Hebrews 7:17), which means king of righteousness. Since our King is our sacrifice and our Priest, Paul said, “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth” (Romans 8:32, 33).

When God appoints a man to preach His Word of Truth before His people, if he accepts the call, he is taking upon himself an enormous responsibility. However, there is a lack of men answering the call to the ministry. The truth is, following Christ includes adventure, risk and purpose. Churches which turn the gospel into soft, congenial messages minimize the cost of discipleship and impute weakness to Christ.

Thought: “Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier” (2 Timothy 2:3, 4).
