David’s Separation from Sin

“Judge me, O Lord; for I have walked in mine integrity: I have trusted also in the Lord; therefore I shall not slide. Examine me, O Lord, and prove me; try my reins and my heart,” Psalm 26:1, 2.

In one of my elementary school classes, we tried an experiment of trying to mix water and oil. We tried to put the two in the same jar and shake them up, heat them up, and tried all kinds of ways to make them blend together. When left standing together, they just separated from each other and no matter what we tried, they would not mix together. We learned that some things were never meant to mix together.

In this life, so many people try to mix sin and righteousness together, but they were never meant to exist together. David knew he would not fall away from the Lord as long as he trusted in the Lord (verse 1). He even went so far as to say to the Lord to test him and prove him (verse 2). David went on to say that he did not want the Lord to mix him with sinners and bloody men because of their sin (verses 9, 10). The Bible warns us not to try to mix ourselves with the world: “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:14). The Lord actually tells us to separate ourselves from them like David wanted to be separated from them and their sin, “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you” (verse 17). Like David, we can walk a successful Christian life when we separate ourselves from sin and walk in truth.

THOUGHT
We have success when we live in the truth. “Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the Lord all the day long” (Proverbs 23:17).
