The Declaration of the Gospel
“But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus. And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks,” Acts 19:9, 10.
There are many weight-loss fads and products that promise swift results. There are many gyms that advertise the latest equipment and facilities that are guaranteed to bring results. But if you do not eat right and exercise, none of the fad diets, weight-loss products, or gym memberships will bring results. The only sure way for a healthy body is healthy eating and exercise consistently over time. As it is with weight loss methods, there are many creative ideas to bring people to Christ. But none of our methods will work if we do not preach the gospel.
Paul entered the synagogue and began reasoning and persuading lost men of their need for Christ. He simply preached the gospel to dying men declaring their need for a living Savior. Verse 8 tells us that Paul continued faithfully for three months in the synagogue until some began to stir up strife while he preached. Yet, there were some who believed, so Paul took them aside and continued to preach the gospel.
Paul continued for two years until everyone in the region had heard the gospel. We may choose to evangelize through relationships or door-to-door outreach or inviting people to church. All of these methods may assist us, but none of these alone will accomplish salvation in the heart of unbelievers. Preaching the gospel consistently over time and allowing the Holy Spirit to do His work will bring lost people to Christ. The gospel must be preached!
REFLECTION: The preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ is the only life-changing
effort that will last. Preach the gospel!
