What God Does for the Psalmist

“I love the Lord, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications,” Psalm 116:1.

There is an adage in the workplace that corrections ought to be done privately and kudos done publicly. In other words, tell a fellow he messed up in your office and tell him he did well in front of his buddies. While some places in the Bible tell us to make our supplications private, some things are worth publicizing. Thanking God for His deliverance is one such thing.

This psalm is a public thank you to God for saving the unknown writer of this psalm from some dangerous situation. We are not told who or what the problem involved, but we know the writer was grateful and wanted everyone to know it.

Did you know that every event in the universe is caused or allowed by God? Did you also know that God is a very personal God? That means every event in your life is caused or permitted by God. That is quite amazing. Because God is all-powerful, He has the ability to intervene in your life. This psalm raises some questions. Do you get in your prayer place daily and pray like you mean it? Do you believe God can do what you ask? On the other hand, maybe all you do is ask God for stuff. It can be hard to balance, but the point is God wants us to talk to him.

What does public thanks mean, anyway? We should understand that God ordains every event in our lives. If we wake up, God did it. If we narrowly escape death, God did that, too. When we thank Him loudly and publicly, we edify others in encouragement that God will answer their prayers, too. Would you like to help a brother or sister strengthen their faith today?

JUST A THOUGHT
Sometimes, we will shout for our favorite football team but barely even mumble for God. Why is that?
