Happiness in Only Found in the Lord
“Blessed is every one that feareth the Lord; that walketh in his ways. Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the Lord,” Psalm 128:1, 4.
This psalm is centered around family, but the first verse says everyone who fears the Lord will be blessed. Fearing the Lord is obedience to Him, to live in the manner He has set for everyone.
Family life has drastically changed in the last fifty to sixty years. Nevertheless, each one in a family has responsibilities given by the Lord, and it is in fearing the Lord that these duties will be fulfilled. Psalm 111:10 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: agood understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.” Those who fear the Lord not only will be blessed but also will have wisdom to know the right things to do.
The Bible admonishes a man to be hard working (Psalm 128:2). A man who has wisdom and is hard working will be rewarded for his work. A wife will be fruitful not just in childbearing (big families were normal in Bible times) but how she takes care of her duties in the home (verse 3).
The Lord has an order for His people, and even though society has changed, the guidelines set forth in the Bible have not. People look for happiness and fulfillment in so many other areas, but it is never truly attained. Happiness comes from one source, the Lord. When you fear Him and obey Him and follow the path He has for you, the promise is, you will be blessed.
In society, there is a division between men and women and even families. Everyone is trying to compete with one another. God’s way brings peace and happiness.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
What is your answer to the question,
“Am I on the path God has set forth for me according to His Word?”
