The Wise Understand
“Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the Lord,” Psalm 107:21, 43.
The resounding theme of this psalm is that men would praise the Lord for His wonderful works. Men certainly like to be praised or given thanks for the things they do, and sometimes it is easier to recognize someone for what he did than it is to recognize the Lord. One thing to remember, though, is without the Lord nothing would be possible. So, it is to Him you should give thanks for all the things He has done, from the little things to the big things.
A continuing theme throughout the Psalms is giving thanks to the Lord. Psalm 107, like other psalms, is a reminder to do just that. Unfortunately, many people only give thanks and praise to the Lord for delivering them out of trouble. This was a constant with Israel. Every day you should give thanks to the Lord.
Verse 22 says to give the sacrifices of thanksgiving and declare His works with rejoicing. It is a sacrifice to give praise because it goes against your nature. It is something that needs to be put into practice every day. It is the righteous people, those who are following the Lord, who will take notice of all He has done and will do. The righteous are counted as wise.
If you want to be counted as wise, it says the wise will observe. This means to take notice or come to realize how the Lord works. If you are wise, you will recognize the goodness of the Lord every day, not just when He delivers you from trouble. You can see how many times the Lord delivered Israel. Think about how many times He has delivered you, praise Him.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
Take the time every day to praise the Lord. Recognize Him. He is worthy.
