The Spies Promise

“I will believe it when I see it.” In other words, they want proof of something that they can see, then they will believe it is real. Many treat God and His existence that way. The demands for more and more proof are unceasing. The funny thing is that there is never enough proof for these folks. Jesus could likely sit beside them and speak, and they would still find a way to rationalize away that appearance. While Jesus did appear to many, most of us do not get that level of proof. What we do get is the world around us, His Word and the testimony of changed lives. The reality is that we will never get proof in the sense that mathematics offers it. Eventually people must step out in faith and believe what is offered. In His grace, sometimes God offers more to those who honestly seem to be seeking the truth. We see that in our story.

Rahab had heard the same information as everybody around her; they had all heard of the coming Israelite army and what God had done for them. Maybe God looked in Rahab’s heart and saw a person honestly seeking Him, we really do not know. We do know that God sent men to Rahab personally, and that she acted on that and then acted in faith. She believed, acted, and was ultimately saved because of her faith.

JUST A THOUGHT: God has provided more than enough proof of Himself for us to believe; if we do not, it is not because He failed to show Himself.
