The Friends and Fellowship of Faith

“Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him,” Psalm 91:14, 15.

Fathers have an internal instinct to protect their children. Fathers will go through great lengths to see their children come to no harm or suffering. No amount of protection, though, will always keep your children from harm. When it does come, fathers will comfort and support their children the best they can.

This psalm is often misconstrued to say that God will allow no harm, disease or danger to come to His children. Yes, God offers protection and many times in His mercy He does choose to heal or deliver. The last few verses of the psalm refer to Jesus. Jesus gave us an example of loving and following the Lord. Jesus went through a cruel death to save sinners. He also was mocked and beaten on your behalf. Where was God?

God never said His children would not suffer. Jesus suffered greatly; yet, God did not rescue Him from it. However, Jesus is now exalted, and His name is above every name (Philippians 2:8, 9). If you are a child of God, salvation is your protection. In death you are made whole. The apostle Paul compared the sufferings of this time not even worthy to be compared to the glory which will be revealed in you (Romans 8:18).

Child of God, you can rejoice in the protection and deliverance you have been given. For nothing will separate you from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus your Lord (Romans 8:35-39). “Your life is hid with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:3).

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
It is hard to rejoice in suffering but keep your eyes on the Lord and all He has given you.
